Press Release
Managing multiple medications is a major concern for some eight million Canadians

Aurora, ON, November 2, 2016 – A recent survey by Leger reveals that some eight million Canadian adults are concerned about their ability or the ability of a loved one to take prescription medications at the right time, in the right dosage.

The survey also reveals that about 10.6 million (40 percent) Canadian adults take medication for chronic conditions daily and among this group 2.4 million (23 per cent) take five or more pills each day. In the group of people aged 65 years and older, these numbers increase to approximately four million (70 per cent) and 1.2 million (31 per cent) respectively.

“In our experience, the health of our patients is compromised if they have difficulty tracking and adhering to their medications," says Rachel Patel, pharmacy manager for Alliance Pharmacy Group, the pharmacy that commissioned the survey. "This is especially a concern for those who require multiple prescriptions.”

In 2015, Alliance launched a personal medication management system, Alliance MedPack, to help Canadians better manage their prescriptions. Using the latest robotic dispensing technology, the system features a roll of pre-sealed pouches that contain prescribed pills sorted by date and time according to their doctor’s instructions. Each patient’s medications are packaged in a way that is clear and easy to read and use.

“Patients are happy to say goodbye to using multiple containers and bulky pill organizers,” says Patel. “We’re delighted to offer Canadians a tool and the service they need to help them manage their medication prescriptions while enjoying the trust and convenience they have come to expect from their pharmacy. After all, looking after your health shouldn’t get in the way of living your life.”

In operation since 2010, Alliance offers free next business day delivery on all prescription medications to anywhere in Canada. Through its website and onsite call centre, experienced pharmacy staff provide patients with prescription counselling as well as work with insurance providers and doctors to manage refills, renewals and transfers.
